7/3/09 update
The unemployment rate may be rising but Bears were working overtime this week, as both stocks in general and biotechs in particular got battered. When the markets closed (Thursday for the U.S. and Friday elsewhere), the Nasdaq Composite Index was up 14.31% CYTD, or Contest Year To Date, (vs. up 16.97% CYTD a week ago), while the Nasdaq Biotech Index was up 1.55% CYTD (vs. up 5.25% CYTD a week ago) and the Contest median was up 10.67% CYTD (vs. up 18.07% CYTD a week ago).
Although down for the week, RKRW's portfolio remained in first place, but GENE's portfolio skipped over GEORGIA's portfolio to take the No. 2 slot. The week's closing CYTD percentages are: RKRW up 76.93%, GENE up 63.12%, GEORGIA up 58.34%.
At Friday's close, 22 of the 32 Contest portfolios were in the black and 21 of the 32 were beating the NBI.
Enjoy the Independence Day weekend biotechies!
