Journalism majors understand the Journalism business, not the computer or design businesses. They know less than we do with few exceptions. Traditionally in order to displace an established digital paradigm the new paradigm has to be 2X as good. Microsoft is a little different because they can afford to lose money for a few billion years. In the past Microsoft has employed millions of mediocre coders and designers busily designing bloatware, whereas Google and Apple have a few really good people designing really good stuff. Maybe Microsoft has changed a little for the better who knows. Google has slipped a little. But I wouldn't bet on anyone challenging Google in search yet, at least outside of China. ----- Actually I was just thinking part of google's success is that it is built into Firefox. Microsoft WILL build Bing into Explorer... that could seriously impact google come to think about it. Google HAS made some of the same kinds of blunders Netscape made, making unwanted "improvements" that denegrated the user experience. Hmmm... I may stand corrected... by myself...
