I know that providing sufficient electricity for PHEVs is not insurmountable. That's why I'm emphasizing base load power solutions over "part-time" power. As you know, my primary problem with PHEV is battery cost AND LIMITED LONGEVITY.

In addition to that, there are several vehicle to grid pilots out there that will use recharging vehicles as storage systems for additional idle electricity power. This could be part of the solution to providing additional storage.

And I can't understand why I would plug my car in to recharge for the evening, only to let the power company drain that power back out. So I think using cars as "storage systems" is BS, unless they are going to credit my power account with more money than it cost to recharge my vehicle.

My own belief is that the future is going to be a majority combination of solar, wind, and nukes, with maybe some coal if they can perfect that carbon sequestration technology, which I doubt.

Well IMO, my DOUBTS about the ability for alternatives to economically supply BASE LOAD power to the grid certainly outweighs your concerns about the ability to sequester CO2 from coal based generation plants.

And I suspect, like India and China, the American people will choose to accept additional CO2 output over power shortages. Besides.. burning candles are a source of CO2 as well..

You need to focus on figuring out how to use natural means to sequester CO2 instead of banging your head against the wall trying to make people emit less of it. As fossil fuels become more limited in supply, and thus more costly, that problem will take care of itself.
