The big problem in Troopergate was that Palin fired Walt Monegan, who was a very popular man. All politics is local, as they say.

Most of the ethics complaints against her were indeed baseless. She was elected against a backdrop of government corruption, and she pushed for stronger ethics rules. People used the process against her, so I think the legislature will now look at reining in the frivolous complaints. Here's a rundown...

Number 18 is still open, and there's blog speculation that an impending bad result on this spooked her into resigning. If this legal trust fund is ruled unethical, it would be a financial disaster for her and some of her staff...

18. April 27: Contends Palin is misusing the governor's office for personal gain by securing unwarranted benefits and receiving improper gifts through the Alaska Fund Trust. The fund was recently established by supporters to help Palin pay off more than $500,000 in legal debts stemming from other ethics complaints, including troopergate. Complaint filed by Eagle River resident, Kim Chatman. Pending.
