Here is my letter to the Senators, Congress and President I wrote today. If you care about Health Care, I suggest we all back the use of "Value Stream Mapping" (developed by Toyota, a famous Commie organization) to eliminate waste and improve quality.

Mr. President and Staff,
I work in the regulated medical industry and when we look at a process that costs money (like health care) we do something called "Value Stream Mapping". Any part of the process that doesn't improve, modify, change or deliver the product or service to the customer is considered for elimination as waste.

If we look at health care in the US, what critical function does the Insurance Industry actually do? They don't improve, change, modify or deliver the service. So, when you are looking at delivery solutions and cost cutting, why isn't this level of multi-payer bureaucracy the first thing on the block? The answer is that they are a powerful lobby and will subvert any attempt to remove their grip on the cash flow, from which they constantly take an increasing part.

If you were to audit a dollar given to an insurance company, much of this is being used to purchase non-medical edifices, hire legal or regulatory staff and perform actuarial duties. In addition, they pay bonuses and provide dividends, but these activities do not produce any treatment or improved outcome for the patient.

A single payer system would eliminate a huge amount of bureaucracy and improve the delivery of medicine. If we give a dollar to a hospital, nurse or attendant, we know (and can audit) what they do with it and demonstrate how effectively this money is used. This doesn’t appear to be the case with the Insurance Industry.
Sincerely,
<your name>
