Main advantage of static IP besides being able to set up your own server is that when you are remote you are able to access that computer. Not sure what happens to those advantages if you go through a router.

Disadvantage is privacy concerns and static IP provides a stationary target for attacks such as DOS.

I suppose it would be possible to use the computer as primary access to the internet and then use the Airport as an extension of that network (not sure of setup)

Some routers are able to broadcast a MAC address of your choosing. Don;t see the option is airport but might be there.. If that the case ATT doesn't have to know.

Switch to cable and there will likely be a premium if you want to keep a static IP.
If you live in a crowded area, cable can slow down quite a bit during prime time which is whenever people are downloaded bucketloads of stuff
