For the record, Schwab's web site was totally unresponsive all morning until lunch; I couldn't even log-in, let alone perform a trade. Also, their 800 Telebroker system returned busy signals all morning. It's obvious many brokerages cannot deliver service during corrections that generate 1-billion in trading volume. Therefore, I'm going to start keeping 60-day limit/stop orders on some securities I want to buy/sell; for the small investor, getting your order in the queue early seems the only practical (though not perfect) solution.
