That 100 year supply is at current pumping rates. Triple the rate and you have 33 years. Account for growth in demand and you have 25 years worth. What then?

There is also the problem that depletion depends on the rate you draw the gas from the ground. The faster you pump, the less you can recover. If we actually did what you suggest we would be royally reamed in about 15-20 years and there would be useless facilities all over the country.

There are many ideas that initially sound great (ethanol was a classic) but the only viable solution available right now is to cut out wasteful consumption. That actually will happen indirectly as the costs rise.

I have a bunch of nieces/nephews staying with me right now. The Mrs. and I are both getting VERY ticked off. These teenagers leave lights and fans on everywhere they go. It's like they think the switch only goes from off to on. They take hot showers until the 55 gallon heater runs out. They want a new supersized towel for each shower. They would probably run the AC with the windows open if allowed to. It is truly pathetic. They won't be invited over again but at least I now understand why their parents are so poor. Their parents are going to be a lot poorer if Cap and Trade goes through.
