Have you actually been on Dell's site?

They have a line that appeals to all customer segments based upon capability and price..

Just because I paid $820 for my Dell Inspiron 530 Q6600 doesn't make it low quality and that the company has low margin on it..

All the components are commodity, with the Nvidia 8600 GPU, WD 500 GB HD etc..

I would question aapl's component quality.

I have no issues with aapl's iMac(except for the $1800 and $2100 model which I don't see the value proposition) and portable pricing. The current plastic MB is a place holder until a new line is released which should extend the pricing option way below $999.

Also, the only desktop line up is the MacPro which for that capability the price could be slightly adjusted or that standard ram and HD should be higher.

There is no prosumer desktop for below $2000 that is keeping the Mac from increasing share in meaningful numbers.

Also, aapl has lots of wiggle room with margins when you factor in apple care, mobile me, FC, and other aapl aps plus life long software upgrades.
