Those sub $200 "smartbooks" will be highly subsidize by the likes of Verizon & AT&T to $0 with data contracts.

They certainly will be, but this will be a small portion of the market unless data prices fall dramatically. The average consumer simply isnt going to pay $60 a month for another way to access the web.

Could make wireless phone calls, i.e. replace a cellular phone.

I can see some value to this if you are overseas, but who is going to pull out their smartbook to call their spouse across town? Also, cant you just use a service like Skype already?
