The reason is that NG is something we have plenty of, so we wouldn't need to spend hundreds of billions in other countries to import it to ours. Most importantly, I'm against oil imports because most of that money goes to countries which are our worst enemies (Venezuela, Russia, Middle East). Oil has distorted our foreign policy. I want our country's foreign policy and economy to be decoupled from oil and I want the petro-dictatorships that get their power from oil to wither away and die. That's good for the US. Oil is bad for the US.
