The iMac and mini are essentially laptops with mobile components that are not on par with desktops for less dough. Has been reported recently that the build cost on the $599 mac mini is nearly $390 which is due to the higher cost of the mobile components. They may fill a need for some, but not for a lot of folks like me. My needs are a mid tower with a decent dual link GPU and room for 2 HD's. aapl could build a high quality mid tower model using a standard dual core cpu such as this.. microcenter.com and a decent low cost GPU such as this.. newegg.com or electronista.com Plus a nice custom mid tower were all components are snapped in(no screws). A version with a 2GB, 500GB and 9500 GPU with a build cost for under $500 could be sold for $899-$999. I would purchase one along with the new 24 inch aapl screen with apple care.
