Statistics are powerful tools if you know how to use them. I do it for a living to improve business processes. In manufacturing and engineering, we use statistics all the time to engineer products that are high quality. In business process engineering, we use statistics to ensure we capture 80-90% of the potential process variability, so that most customers feel like they are getting a customized experience.

What GM and the electric and PHEV builders are doing is simply using statistics to make sure they meet the needs of most consumers. At a 40-50 mile range, they would literally meet the needs of 75% of consumers. Those are the facts. They inconveniently undercut your arguments, but they are the facts nonetheless.
