80% drive less than 40 miles per day on average. Maybe so, but that doesn't mean anyone would buy a car that could only take them 40 miles at a time.

I'm an example. I drive less than 40 mi per day on average. BUT not all days are average. And some non-average days can be important.

If my wife's car broke down near downtown .... sorry honey, can't come and get you. Nope, can't pick up the grandkids from day care today ... might be able to get there, but we couldn't get home. A daughter has a gall bladder operation and she's in a hospital in the med center .... no, can't go visit her - again, I might be able to get there, but couldn't get home.

A 40 mile range car would mean you couldn't travel more than 20 miles with no side trips or errands run. Impossible in major urban areas. Even in rural areas - my elderly parents go to the doctor in a town 20 miles away.

Better to back to horses and buggies.

A 40 mile range car would be useless.
