mindmeld,

Geological history indicates that IF global warming is upon us, we can expect the area of desert to decrease and a dramatic increase in bio diversity. No doubt crop yields would increase too. Furthermore, geology shows us that any amount of global warming due to man made influences would be trivial at best.

We should be preparing for the droughts and decreased crop yields that accompany global cooling. Should gov'ts enact IPCC policy, it will result in a holocaust, responsible for the deaths of 100's of millions of people.

Another geological "lesson" is that as glacial epochs end, continents rise due to isostacy, and ocean basins sink due to being thinner and under greater load. In fact, continents are still rebounding from the melting of the last ice sheet only 10,000 years ago. Although "counter intuitive", at least to global warming advocates, melting the ice sheets results in lower sea levels.
