Don't know about the Obama administration providing safe harbor for the Uighers, but there are credible reports that PRC military officers did participate in the interrogations in Gitmo, so there has been some cooperation at that level. I didn't know Turkey was a US lapdog ;-) Turkey refused to allow US forces to transit Turkey to attack Iraq. Turkey has various agreements with Israel, so that may explain some of that silence. I expect that if China has a choice, it will prefer that Turkey have more cultural influence over central Asia, since Turkey is a pragmatic society with a strong secular and business orientation. The other choices being Russia, Iran, the Saudis, the Taleban, the US, and to some degree, Germany. Aren't the events in the Xinjiang autonomous region an internal Chinese matter ? Why should Obama comment ? The Afghan fighters will not find many infidel Americans to kill in Somalia compared to Afghanistan or Pakistan. Maybe they like the beaches... Anyway, I don't think the "Clash of Civilizations" will be seen as a useful way of understanding the world five years from now.
