The big difference is that in 1987 (i was trading then) nobody really expected that volume could be so huge, and computer technology was much more expensive and less advanced. Today they should have anticipated the volume, and also today was by no means the first time in recent months I have had trouble contacting them. It was the first time I couldn't get them by any method, including direct phone contact with what is supposed to be the premium service, Schwab 500. There is no excuse for an inadequate telephone service without a proper que system. The company seems to be taking this very lightly. If someone could get Mr. Schwab to do a searech of comments on SI, he would see he has a serious problem. I have been a good Schwab customer for years, butI will be taking most of my fairly large account elsewhere, probably to a full service broker.
