I got all the cuts made last week and I'm screwing down today. I love/hate those little deck screws too. They self-tap, but are unforgiving and easily stripped. The cutters are too aggressive, so if you have a soft board underneath they will ream it out so you can't get the head just below flush. If the underlying board is too hard or you hit a nail or knot, the screw strips out the deck plank and/or itself.

I'm sick of Chinese tools. The drill bits are all made in China. They are hard on the outside, for about a micron. Once you have a difficult screw, the bit gets rounded and pretty soon they're useless.

But they're not cheap. I got four bits at the hardware store and the bill was over $11.
