Again, not my expertise but I can't help but think more could be done.

I don't know how much expertise is required. Just brainstorm about how one might go about finding fraud and see if you can come up with anything. I can't come up with much. The only thing I can think of is to look closely at the big volume providers for patterns and anomalies. And I believe they're already doing that because the ones they catch make the news every now and again. I mentioned yesterday installing a hotline, although I doubt it would get much business. OTOH, it wouldn't cost much and something is better than nothing. Also, it might give them insight into how they're being defrauded, which could lead to other initiatives to stop those kinds of fraud.

What do the private insurers do? The only thing I know they do is say "no" a lot, which probably catches some fraud although it's primarily aimed at waste. Medicare doesn't intervene that way. Dunno about Medicaid.

If you can't come up with any ideas, even wild brainstorm output, then there's a good chance that there aren't all those opportunities there you think there are.
