This is an old press release, but I did not see it in clutter of the two AMD threads, so I will post it. biz.yahoo.com
I do recall some gleefully sounding more doom and gloom for AMD after the original story came out about the delay of Intel's Texas plant on the basis that AMD's flash business would be hurt (how the foregoing of capacity by a competitor could be bad for AMD says something about the IQ or motives of some on this service).

I also do not understand the reasoning of some that Intel is playing it smart by lowering prices to hurt AMD. Given that Intel sells twenty times as many processors as AMD, lower prices will hurt Intel's bottom line more. Further, the P5 is effectively a "fighting brand" - the only problem is that there is no existing loyalty to the PII and no reason to pay a huge multiple for a marginal increase in performance.

The concerns about AMD having the money to build in Dresden also are misplaced. My memory of the financing of that plant is that there were huge subsidies payable by the german federal and state governments.
