If I was getting personal insurance, rather than picking from the plans my employer gives me, I would get a high deductible plan (unless the lower deductible plan was surprisingly inexpensive)

I've started looking around at less expensive insurance plans, which you have to do now and again. I'm in my mid-50s and found a plan with $2500 deductible for < $200/month. By the time they get my surcharge on it it will be $300-350/month -- a HUGE savings over what I'm now paying. This only became an option for me because it is a new PPO my doc signed up with.

I'm really astonished to be able to find a suitable plan that saves me this kind of money while giving up very little (basically, better medication reimbursements). A person my age could actually have a decent plan for as little as $180/month -- if they were in better health than I am. I think it is totally reasonable. Of course, I've been paying a hell of a lot more.
