I remember Greenspan saying something like this; 'derivatives have proven effective in controlling commodity prices.'

That was sometime early in the last reflation attempt maybe 2002. By July 15, 2008 that was no longer the case and the Fed/Treasury got a little more desperate. 'Central planners' definitely have an interest in directing money into assets (debt) instead of commodities. Unintended consequences of pursuing these policies will become more and more obvious and devastating going forward IMO.
