It's people like you who CONTRIBUTE to these problems and make them that much worse.

It appears that virtually ALL of the brokers, full service and discount, had access problems via all channels: Web, phone, telebroker (or whatever they call it), and long lines for those who went in person. Not everyone had problems, and the problem varied from none to delays to absolute impossibility to get in at all. It needs to be understood that between the NAZ and NYSE (not to even mention the AMEX), there were 2.5 BILLION shares traded today, when the normal volume is 600 million +/-. I'd be pissed too if it had cost me, just as I'd be pissed if a lightning bolt hit my car, but I'd still be able to realize that this falls almost into the "acts of God"
category. There is no insurance against this, full service broker or not. The best defense is to have multiple channels (brokers) and to know every access channel for each broker. And to just be persistent.
