I'm not a young guy and I worry about my kids the way things are going.

I share your concern.

My current focus is on teaching and enabling my older grandkids to be independent and self-reliant. This week, that includes power and hand tool fundamentals with practise on each. My high school taught wood working, welding, machine shop and drafting. Those are fundamental skills that everyone needs a touch of.

Next we are going to Lowes to examine fasteners, nuts, bolts, nails, screws, etc, to learn what to use when and why. We will buy some to bring home and practise with.

We are splitting some wood everyday...the lesson is Red Oak is easier to split than White Oak, etc. They don't know it yet, but I am going to teach them some primitive fire starting techniques too.

Along the way and thanks to others, I'm learning a few new tricks too.
