Yes, as Bush did with Iraq, he is gambling his presidency on these initiatives. Though both sides will claim certainty, it is impossible to know exactly how this will work out. Cap and trade may be as cheap as forecast and the health care bill may deliver the needed decrease in health care expenses...but I'm not particularly optimistic either.

This is particularly true since he seems to be content to let Congressional Democrats drive the particulars of these bills. A tax on high-end health care plans provided by employers might have actually had an impact on total health care spending....instead we get the laughably named surtax. I think he'll regret the all consuming need for speed that is going on right now, but as I said, we'll just have to see how this plays out. As pathetic as the Republicans have been, the 2010 and 2012 elections are more likely to be referendums about Obama as anything else.
