Not by me. I think Palin is a buffoon. I don't want leaders that are just like the average American. I want leaders who are the best of the best that America has to offer. I like people like Romney, Huckabee, Condi, Gingrich, and especially Powell. These are the best of the best, whether or not we all agree with their policy stances, they are intelligent and qualified. Palin is neither.
The thing is, it doesn't make a lot of sense to defend what is worst in the GOP. It makes alot more sense to acknowledge the GOP has some serious warts, excise them, and remake the party into what it was in the days of Reagan and Bush Sr. I'm not talking about going back to the ideology of those days, but about making the party stand for something other than being against the Democrats.
I'd love for the GOP to say, "climate change is still up for debate, but one thing we should not debate is our need to be oil independent...and here's our plan. It includes drilling everywhere, but we're not going to get there by drilling alone. We have to do a whole lot more and these are the things we suggest..."
Do that and pick some leaders we can respect to sell the plan, because they are accomplished and intelligent, not because they can shoot a moose, then they'd have a fighting chance to get people like me back into the fold. Cap and Trade alone makes me more open to the GOP. They are right to criticize Cap and Trade. |
