I can see two issues though....

Personally, I expect that someone like Madoff has probably caused the deaths of more people then any serial killer in history... certainly financially harmed vastly more people then any bank robber in history, so my personal 'druthers' is "HANG 'EM HIGH". No mercy.

But, I've read that prisons believe (partly because he has harmed SO MANY FAMILIES, and partly because of the normal tendency of many cons to want to 'make a name for themselves') that --- if he were to be put in ANY seriously harsh prison, he would have to be kept totally isolated from the general prison population, in permanent solitary confinement, or he would be killed in short order.

Since I'm much more sympathetic to argument #1 above, I don't see the problem with that (let him 'take his chances' same as any bank robber or child molester...), but I guess I do understand what the prison authorities are saying....
