I realize we might have to take out Iran's navy and air force to keep the straits open. But we can do that.

Sounds easy to close the straits by sinking tankers or putting out mines, but they failed to close the straits the last time they tried. We have mine-sweepers and we can destroy any weapon they have that can sink tankers if we want.

The question is do we have the will now. Thats an open question.

BTW if Iran gets nukes, everything changes. Then they and they alone will determine who uses the Gulf. They can order us out of Iraq and Afghanistan and the Persian Gulf all together. And they can dictate to other Gulf nations what they can ship as well.
