we agree if in a corporate plan risk is spread out over numerous families to reduce costs.. most families cannot afford deep out of pocket costs and join hmo to have minimum out of pocket costs. i remember in the corporation i worked i held a ppo plan which was perhaps 2% of total employees in plans the remainder all went to hmo.

If your children are older, through the stages of ear infections, constant other type infections, perhaps surgery, xrays, lots of medications deep out of pocket is very attractive.

we would go deep out of pocket, it is amazing how many will not even think about it. I have that type coverage on the extended medicare from corp. pay $50. mo.. i have friends paying $300./$400.aarp for coverage, plus medicare. I could run up a serious bill before i get to their costs.

ps both high cost plans are in ma. could it be because of the state plan everyone is covered?
