After decades of condemnation, clear cutting may be seen in a new light thanks to a stroke of the pen from Obama. Seeds are everywhere and things grow back, like the old myth of cutting your hair off to get thicker hair in the next growth.

I don't know what terrain Koan is talking about, maybe it is flat land. I've seen the results of clear cutting where there is any slope to speak of. The top soil is soon washed away and any new growth is typically low ground cover and brush, not luscious forest trees. Even if the ground is flat new trees don't take when they are crowded out by brush that takes off first. Of course they will probably attempt to manage some of these effects and plant seedling trees. That is the norm.
