Thanks for the thoughtful reply. It does seem to be playing out as you say.

I like the imagery of "VL" rather than "W".

I've had a 20% position short SPY for some time, and I'm happy to just leave it to ride. The time cost is negligible, no margin and just occasional div recapture. SDS on the other hand would not be a good vehicle for this approach.
