I won't repeat the story of sitting next to Tom on a flight from Chicago to KC; well maybe I will. He was as down to earth as any 'celebrity' I have ever met, as easy to chat with as anyone I have encountered... absolutely no 'I'm better than you' attitude. Just a regular guy shooting the sh-t on an airplane. I was a road warrior in those days and he was in his slump, hardly playing golf at all. I complained about taking flights every week, and said 'but you must have gone crazy with all the golf traveling'. He looking me in the eye (with that half smile of his) and said something like "are you kidding, being a professional golfer is THE BEST LIFE in the world. There is nothing bad about that life, it's just incredible good fortune. I loved every minute". That attitude is on display this weekend. He may blow up and shoot 10 over today but you know he will have a great time regardless. You won't see Tom pound a club into the ground... too much respect for the game and for his own good fortune.
