"What is broken is that we have the highest cost health care by far but fall to one of the lowest in the developed word when it comes to our health. IOW, we aren't getting what we pay for." This is an issue where John Edwards was sadly right. We are a nation of two worlds. We need to recognize that many of us get excellent care and do get what we pay for. An additional many do not - and their health status drags down the national figures. In many ways education is the same thing. The US simply cannot be compared to other more homogeneous societies. We have special circumstances and special needs. This issue is not something solved in a couple of weeks with a vacation deadline. It is time for the promised leadership to show up.
