You say, "Why are the ERs of this country filled with people with coughs, sore throats and other non-emergent problems thereby choking the system and making the truly sick waste time waiting in the ER for care?"

Because care is covered and free under welfare programs like ADC. These patients are frequently non-compliant with scheduled follow-up therapeutic recommendations and too often their acceptance of personal responsibility is zero. After all, what do they have to lose? There is no personal cost to their over utilization or their demand for unnecessary care and evaluation.

I am amazed that a practicing physician would think socialized medicine is the road to cost effictive, quality healthcare.
