"Both sides first need to recognize that the current health-care system isn't working. John McCain did acknowledge that during the election, but and Obama clearly had different views on how to deal with the issue.

I'd like to think there's a way to compromise on the issue, making basic public health care available to everyone in the U.S. while maintaining private health care for people who prefer to go that route, the way we have public and private school systems in America.

But the unfortunate reality of our political system (or culture) is, Democrats and Republicans always seem hell bent on blocking and undermining one another instead of working toward a common good. I think both sides have been guilty of being "the party of 'no'" depending on who was in power.

So my short answer is, it seems that the Republicans are more concerned about "breaking" Obama and regaining their majority than doing anything about health care."
