I don't really like hyphenated names, but it makes no sense to me that lines should be organized along one or the other gender.

I don't know of an alternative.

I'm the fourth of my line, and my birth certificate has a IV after my last name. This caused some trouble with Social Security, which didn't input my name correctly when they digitized their records.

As yet I have no grandsons, and I'm afraid my line will fade away. Maybe that's a good thing.
