Dief, good news on Socket 7 chipsets.

It appears that the relationship between AMD and VIA, which makes the VP-2 and VP-3 (AGP) chipsets has been patched up. I notice 4 dealers in San Diego selling the Shuttle 603 motherboards with the AMD-640 (a.k.a. VIA VP-2) chipsets and 1 Meg of L2 cache. There was a one-month period where these boards were not available because, according to a salesman, there was a problem between AMD and VIA. These chipsets also cache more than 64M of SDRAM or EDO, which will be important next year when Windows 98 hits the streets.
