Dr Davis:
>>>Sorry, Lindy, no experience here. I wonder what the implications are of taking the intact thyroid gland, hormones, proteins, and all? Many people take all sorts of glandular extracts and I've never heard of any adverse effects and, of course, we eat animals for food. If anyone tries this, please let us know how it goes.
>>>I've heard a lot of good stuff about Nutri-meds from people who self-treat for adrenal and thyroid problems.
That being said, I ordered Nature-throid myself so as to have a standardized dose (avoiding Armour due to problems with new formulation being discussed all over the net). The prescription products are also made from porcine thyroid, but have a standardized amount of T3 and T4 (as well as indeterminate amounts of T1, T2 and calcitonin).
However, if it were not possible for me to get a prescription thyroid product without a prescription in an underground manner, I'd have gone with Nutri-meds as my second choice. They are very well thought of amongst those who self-treat. I think working the dosage out might be a tad tricky, and it might vary a bit from batch to batch, but it'd beat not being able to treat at all.
I understand their adrenal cortex product is very good also, but again, I found a source of generic Cortef, so can be a bit more precise about what I'm taking. I would be less inclined to take the whole adrenal product which I suspect would have some adrenaline in it, I think the adrenal cortex product is better. I actually have a bottle of both the porcine thyroid and adrenal cortex as "backup" in case I am unable to get the prescription products at any time.
The only actual dessicated organ I take myself is liver. Like Dr. D, I think our ancestors ate glands and organ meats all the time, so doubt they can hurt any. And I'm just not going to eat live no matter how healthy it is. ;)
I keep a daily medical chart and the chemist in me likes to be able to write down exactly how much HC and thyroid I'm taking when, etc. so prefer the standardized meds. |
