Good old-fashioned monogamy was tossed out

There never was such a thing. Do you know the history of marriage in this country? Up until the 20th century, it was an institution mostly for the well off. Most people did not get married. It was really a big problem.....esp. with all the randy guys running around in the Wild West. So different things were done to encourage marriage like changing the IRS rules to make it more beneficial.

Interestingly enough, marriage doesn't seem to guarantee monogamy for a whole host of reasons last of which is general horniness. So there is nothing old fashioned about monogamy. In fact, its a concept mostly imposed since WW II and its never worked very well.
