Because the bill, if passed unilaterally, will be demagogued by the Republicans for years to come.

It will be anyways no matter what Obama does to compromise. In fact Grassley, the health care liason R from Iowa refuses to cooperate now. The Rs think they have created a tempest. I think they are very wrong......per usual.

So what's your point?
