But the number of stocks that looked attractive yesterday morning after the market tanked another 100 or so points was not funny. The market looked "cheap" or rather certain tech sector stocks looked cheap. As I mentioned yesterday insider/company buying is a good indicator and once IBM announced their planned buyback the buying frenzy began.

What if IBM did not announce? Wasn't the market just using Hong Kong as an excuse to dump? That was my impression since the selling pressure was intense prior to Hong Kong being even mentioned. I still think the impact on the semi-equip makers down the road is real IF the economies are as bad as everyone says. In contrast, if the economies there recover then maybe the semi-equips are fine. The other issue with the semi-equips is any slowdown from the logic makers. Will have to wait and see I guess. The other important thing for that group is whether the valuations are now considered "reasonable" even if EPS for next year comes down.

Still the volume today was impressive.

Didn't the Hong Kong market after it tanked last Thursday stage a recovery when comapanies announced intentions to buy back their shares? Was Tuesday the American Version of hope beating our fear (for now)?

I wish I knew. I think I'll selectively enter and keep cash on the side. Seems the safer thing to do. For now.
