If the zealots on the left and the right actually kept a focus on the center instead of howling for purist ideological crusades every election cycle, we wouldn't end up with this schizophrenic train wreck. Has Washington addressed the serious long-term problems - budget, energy, immigration, social security, healthcare - while careening back and forth from one clique of activists to another? Nope. But that's what activists do, howl for ideological purity because they are The Righteous Saviors of Humanity. Just ask them. It's a stale dead end. I feel sorry for everyone who chooses to be trapped in it.
