LUCENT, NORTEL PROFITS CLIMB: Net earnings of Lucent Technologies and Northern Telecom in the quarter ended September 30 rose 45% and 37%, respectively. Net income of the two equipment makers was US$369 Million (Lucent) and US$153 Million (Nortel); revenues rose 13% (Lucent) and 15% (Nortel).
