Steve, yes, the guy from Smith Barney, said he was "fuzzy" on Faroudja, and asked GJ directly if it would be a mainstream product application or a niche application. GJ did not answer the question, plain and simple. Either it was for competitive reasons, or it was due to uncertainities. It was an obvious evasive manuever by GJ, which concerned several analysts.
GJ did say however, in his "answer", that the Faroudja project will offer a "compelling" (quote) DVD performance. A possible hint of a niche high end only, or possibly a "marketing" strategy to associate the Faroudja with its broader product line, or possibly Faroudja won't be the important cog we hope. I don't know. And either does the investment community. That's the problem.
I agree with you, that they are very concerned about offering any "false hopes" in this tumultuous sector. This was explicitly told to me by management.
As I said, S3 is still on the radar, and I'm waiting for that new "weapons system" (fundamentals) before I pilot this warbird again.-g-
