I almost met a similar fate in 1989 in the Seymour Narrows on the north side of Vancouver Island. Alaskan captain had no experience with those waters and we tried to pass during a strong tide. The boat hit the rip where the H2O was shearing along our port side and listed almost to the deck. One of the scariest moments of my life. That H2O is cold enough to kill you in a couple minutes.
