Curlton: I don't have the URL for the Tor???-2000 project, but wasn't that a routed network? I'm under the impression Alcatel is only selling an end-to-end DMT ATM system.
Picture this, a Bell Cananda conference room with a large white board. A group of technical, sales, marketing, purchasing, etc have to list the advantages of each companies RFP. The first bullet item is Westell's partnership with Nortel. That gives Westell the leg up on Alcatel. Now comes the reasons to use an Alcatel solution. By the end of the day Westell/Nortel's partnership is ranked 10'th on this list and 1-9 are reasons to go with an Alcatel solution. When we go to other regions in the world, Westell isn't going to have that initial bullet item on the white board. This is why I'm concerned about Westell competing against Alcatel in other regions. Those vendors that want an end-to-end ATM system are selecting Alcatel as the primary supplier of ADSL equipment. Westell indicates the reason for this was a lack of a DMT product. That was one of the 9 reasons to go with an Alcatel solution, I would like to hear other 8 reasons.
Here are some additional reasons....
Cost, size-of-company, full-control-over-all-components, focus-on-only-an-end-to-end-ATM-system.... etc. I'm sure we can add to this list.... until later. |
