Gates and the Officer both over reacted. Following department policy and procedure is not over reacting... those who know the officer personally, and from many different minority groups, all say that the officer has never had an incident like this during his entire career in law enforcement... but now you come along and from a long distance, and never having met the officer, and not having read the police report you can say the officer over reacted? How do you have such remarkable telepathic and out of body abilities? In fact, it was gates who over reacted, he already has a known history of causing civil disturbances, he was once thrown out of a bar for causing problems... being a professor doesn't give him or anyone license to be disrespectful to a police officer who was only trying to respond to a call, you're wrong... GZ
