We would take a jar with a lid (holes punched in the top for air) and catch them that way. I also loved catching garter snakes and petting them. I got over all of that when my neighbor's mother made us stick horses. Playing "Indians" in the woods was fun too. We'd use spear ferns as weapons. ;)
