Ride Boards Wins Top Honors in First Snowboarding Online Demo

PR Newswire, Wednesday, October 29, 1997 at 08:18

Ride Is the Only Brand to Have Two Boards in the Top Ten Cumulative Total Rankings

PRESTON, Wash., Oct. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Ride Snowboards, known for its
cutting-edge manufacturing facility in Corona, California, was recently
recognized for this technology by Snowboarding Online
(www.solsnowboarding.com) when it gave Ride top honors in the first annual
Snowboarding Online Demo. Of the 85 boards tested, including product from
Burton, Sims, Airwalk and K2, Ride was the only brand which had two boards in
the top ten of the cumulative total rankings. Ride received top honors in
three categories; The Timeless 161 placed first in the Freeride, All-mountain
category; the Jeff Brushie 153 placed first in the Park and Pipe category and
The Mountain 159 placed third in the Big Mountain, Extreme category.
The demo took place last May at Timberline at Mount Hood in Oregon. The
demo team included four men and two women of varying body shapes.
Specifically, the team included a past all-around pro and a PSIA certified
snowboard instructor. During the week of the demo, Timberline had 8 inches of
snow during the 5-day demo, providing a variety of conditions including
powder, to glare ice to slush. Each rider took two runs on each board tested.
"This designation by Snowboarding Online is a clear recognition of Ride's
premier technology," said Bob Hall, president and CEO of Ride. "We beat the
most respected names in the industry with solid craftsmanship, a direct result
of the processes we have in place in Corona. Our philosophy is simple and it
works. We believe in great product, great marketing and great service."
According to their review of the Jeff Brushie board, SOL said, "This board
may explain why Jeff Brushie left Burton for Ride -- it rules." The Timeless,
according to SOL, "is a great board ... It won praise from the entire demo
squad." Finally, when reviewing The Mountain, SOL said, "Look out for The
Mountain. If you like the graphics and the name, you will enjoy the board."
Jeff Brushie, the world half-pipe champion who joined Ride's professional
team last year, played a major role in this year's design process. The Brushie
features an Ultralite core and Ride's exclusive thin cap construction, along
with a 2000 grade sintered base for carrying speed in the half pipe.
The Timeless 161, part of the Timeless series, represents the absolute
highest level of board construction available. Ride starts with its Misty Core
(35% lighter), and then wraps the core in a 45 degree Thermal Misty Cap,
triaxial glass and 4000 sintered base. This board is designed for the advanced
rider looking for the ultimate combination of all-mountain flexibility and
free riding performance.
The Mountain 159 is a solid directional board for big-footed riders that
is super-responsive and versatile in all conditions. The Mountain benefits
include Ride's exclusive Lite Core, and uses a 67 degree 3/4 Thermal Cap
construction, which offers weight reduction and superior carving power. Ride
gives it a full-wrap edge protection and a 1500 grade sintered base for
toughness.
Ride, with headquarters in Preston, Washington, was established in 1992.
Today, Ride, Inc. is a leading designer, manufacturer and marketer of
snowboarding equipment and young men's apparel for mountain and street under

performance and functional design.
