He talked to someone female on the scene who he later came to believe to be Whalen, who was the 911 caller (and may have been despite her denial), who was btw calling 911 on behalf of another female neighbor whose identity we don't know. Crowley might have talked to either of them and when he learned the 911 caller's name may have thought it was her he spoke to.

And Whalen may be denying and minimizing her involvement due to pressure and fear of being sued or punished for "racially profiling" - thus her and her lawyers concern about denying she mentioned race. She works for Harvard alumni magazine btw and is subject to pressure. Its strange she's speaking through a lawyer.

If he didn't talk to somebody on the scene, why would he have thought there were two people there? There had been two people trying to get the front door open earlier - Gates and a driver. By the time Crowley arrived, the driver had gone.

Crowley didn't say the 911 caller said they were black on the 911 call. His statement relates to a verbal conversation he had with someone at the scene - either Whalen or the neighbor lady Whalen was calling on behalf of.

I'm amazed at the nitpicking going on to crucify this "outstanding officer and good man". Of course, you think Obama was ignorant to say that.
